King Achibald Duke, Chief of Old Calabar, 1850

The suppression of the slave trade required not only the collaboration of governments in Europe or the Americas, but also in Africa. The image shows a picture of King Achibald Duke, Chief of Old Calabar, an important port of slave embarkation in the Bight of Biafra.
